The Devil Connector menu.

Devil Connector, also known as D Connector, is an assist system where 3 demons can be assigned to offer stat boosts to the party. The leader of these 3 demons will also automatically cast a skill at the start of battle.

Items for upgrading Connector are usually available from events or the Season Pass.

Team restrictions

Demons in Connector are considered an extension of the current party. Due to this, the same demon cannot be in both the party and in the currently-selected Connector.

This restriction also applies to certain alts that can't be in a team together, such as Masakado.jpg Masakado and Masakado A.jpg Masakado A. See Team restrictions for more details.

Only demons currently in the inventory can be selected to be put in Connector - demons in storage cannot, and a demon cannot be moved to storage while it is in Connector. If the player's last copy of a demon disappears from the inventory (selling it, foddering it for something, etc), then that demon will automatically be removed from Connector.

In quests where the player brings two teams (such as Leveling Quests or Aura Gate), each team must use a different Connector. However, duplicate demons are allowed across the Connectors in this case.

Slots

Demons in Connector are assigned to one of three demon slots, and each demon has three skill slots: one slot for an active skill, and two slots for passive skills.

Only the demon in the "leader" slot (the topmost slot) will be able to use their active skill, and they will do so automatically at the start of battle.

  • Connector applies in most quests, Aura Gate, and Dx2 Duel, but not in Alter-World and Battle Tower.

Demon slots and skill slots can be leveled up: the former by using Icon Slasher 13 1 star.png Slasher 13 (chainsaws), and the latter by using Icon Nightmare Nail 1 star.png Nightmare Nails. Upgrades to slots will persist, even if the demon or skill in that slot is changed.

  • Upgrading a demon slot will increase that slot's Reflection Rate. Reflection Rate is multiplied by Basic Connect Stats (the stats of the Demon), and the result of all three demons is added up as Final Connect Stats, visible in the pentagon chart at the lower-left of the screen. Final Connect Stats are then added to the team as stat boosts.
  • Upgrading a skill slot will enhance the effects of the skill in that slot. See the skill's description for specifics.

Slasher 13 and Nightmare Nails have two tiers: 1★ and EX

  • Note: 2★ and 3★ tiers also exist, but are no longer needed for upgrades They can be traded down, at a rate of 10 for the next level down (so 1x 2★ => 10x 1★).
  • EX-tier items cannot be obtained by exchanging.

Active Skills

Notes:

  • Dual-element and element + buff skills do not mention piercing.
  • Buff and Debuff effects from Connect skills are additive with normal Buffs/Debuffs. For example: if a normal ATK buff (20%) is active, and a 5% ATK buff from Connect skills is applied, then the total ATK buff is 25%.
  • Connect skills' Buffs/Debuffs do not display any icon to show whether they are still active.

Oddities:

  • The Ice/Fire skill really says Almighty Aptitude in-game, not Fire Aptitude.
  • It is unknown how much "Heal All" is boosted every 10 levels, as it says +[boost_heal]% on each line in-game.
  • Buff and Debuff skills increase their effects by +0.1 at each 5-level milestone. This is not explained in the in-game description, which simply says "Effect amount will increase based on the level of the set Skill Slot".
  • ATK Debuff V2 is incorrectly called "ATK Buff V2" in-game

The in-game help menu mentions some skill types that have not been found yet:

  • Buffs and debuffs for EV/AC.
  • Status ailments such as Poison and Charm.

Stats

Demons in Connector do not consider how much the player has invested into them (levels, infusions, transfers, panels etc). By default, all demons in connector use their 6★ Awakened stats for Str, Mag, and Vit. (Agi and Luk are not used in Connector). The stats of a demon in connector are called their Basic Connect Stats.

Each demon in Connector multiplies their Basic Connect Stats by their Reflection Rate, which starts at 50%. The results of this calculation are added up across the 3 demons in Connector to get the Final Connect Stats, visible in the pentagon chart at the bottom-left of the Connect screen. Final Connect Stats are then applied to the team as stat boosts. Reflection Rate can be increased by upgrading Connector's demon slots.

Having high Aptitude Ranks will apply Aptitude Bonuses, which further increase the Final Connect Stats applied to the team.

Formula for the stats received by the party:

[(demon 1's stats * demon slot 1's Reflection Rate) + (demon 2's stats * demon slot 2's Reflection Rate) + (demon 3's stats * demon slot 3's Reflection Rate) ] * (100% + stat % boost from aptitudes)

Connect Infusion

The Connect Infusion menu.

By spending Icon Killer Nectar.png Killer Nectar (tomatoes), a demon's Basic Connect Stats can be increased, up to a total of 350 in each of Str, Mag, and Vit. The amount of Nectar needed increases with each infusion performed on the same stat.

  • For example: the first infusion into STR costs 2 nectar, the second costs 3, third costs 4, and so on. The first infusion into MAG starts at 2, then 3, then 4, etc, independent of how much STR was infused.
  • It is overall less costly to infuse a demon to maximum stats if they already have high stats at base.

Aptitude

Each demon has Aptitudes for certain elements, as well as healing, supporting, and obstruction. These values are generally taken from elsewhere in the Megami Tensei franchise, so they may not always match up with a demon's role or abilities in dx2.

Connector adds up the Aptitudes of all three demons, and assigns a rank to the total of each Aptitude. Certain skills' effects may also change depending on the Aptitude totals.

Aptitude Ranks

Certain ranges of total Aptitude will qualify for Ranks. For the highest Rank achieved on each Aptitude, an Aptitude Bonus percentage is applied to Final Connect Stats for the team.

  • For example: achieving Rank C on Dark and Rank D on Elec at the same time will grant a stat bonus of (0.7% + 0.5% = ) 1.2%.

Certain Aptitude Ranks will also activate Secondary Effects on certain skills, such as a second attack on a dual-element AoE skill.

  • However, Aptitude Ranks do not affect a skill's Primary Effects, such as the main attack or healing effect.

All Aptitude values are multiples of 10, and aptitudes cannot be negative (as of the May 2024 update). A demon can have aptitudes in up to 3 different areas, each aptitude ranges from 10 to 80, and their total aptitude spread will sum to 120.

  • Passive skills can also boost aptitude, allowing demons to cover more than 3 areas, or enhance an area they already have. This goes beyond the default cap of 120 points.

Strategy

Due to the high cost of friendship levels, obtaining new Connect Skills may take a long time - therefore, players just starting out on Devil Connector will be very dependent on default skills and stat bonuses from Aptitudes.

Choosing active skills

  • Icon Heal.png Healing - This can be helpful in Aura Gate, allowing the team to recover a little HP at the start of every encounter. If auto talk is turned on, this can also help patch up any HP sacrifices made when recruiting demons.
  • Elemental AoEs - These can provide a small boost to damage in almost any context.
    • If the damage dealt is high enough, then this can disrupt enemy effects that rely on staying healthy, such as The 10th Angel.jpg The 10th Angel's damage reduction when at 99% HP.
      • Demon auras that increase damage dealt by the team (such as Queen Mab.jpg Queen Mab's Queen of the Night) or damage taken by the enemy (such as Mithras.jpg Mithras's Covenant Bless) will affect the damage dealt by connect skills.
      • Demon auras that boost the damage of a specific race will work on Connector, as long as the demon casting the Connect skill meets the requirements. For example, using Angel.jpg Angel in Connector to cast a Light Light AoE, while the real team has a Panel 3 Gabriel.jpg Gabriel (+40% to Light/Elec damage for Divine/Herald demons), will boost the damage of the Connect skill.
    • Since repelled Connect skills don't hurt you, there's no downside to improving the damage of the Connect skill.
    • All of the basic AoEs are magic-based, including the Phys Phys AoE. Therefore, for optimal connect skill damage, try to use demons with a high magic stat.
    • However, since Connect skills don't trigger chain effects, you can't use it to set off a turn 0 combo.
    • Effects phrased as "starts the battle with" (such as the first part of Golden Apple), as well as the effects of the Icon BrandEffect Embattle.png Embattle Brand set, will activate before Devil Connector. This means that those effects can partially block the damage of Connector.
  • Ailments - These are rare (no demon starts with an ailment Connect skill), but can be used to apply an ailment before the enemy can defend against it
    • An exception to this is Icon Barrier.png Barriers from the Icon BrandEffect Ward.png Ward Brand set, which will trigger before Connector.
  • The basic Icon Support.png ATK Buff and Icon Obstruction.png ATK Debuff skills are very weak, so they probably aren't worth using. While they do stack with regular buffs/debuffs, it's a measly 1%-2.5% effect that won't make much of a difference.

Choosing Aptitudes

Early on, the most that Aptitudes can offer is the stat bonuses for Ranks. However, the returns for higher ranks diminishes a lot - it's more efficient to spread Aptitudes widely: get a D rank in as many different Aptitudes as possible.

For example: S Rank is a 1% stat boost for 200 Aptitude, meanwhile D Rank is 0.5% stat boost for 10 aptitude. Getting D rank in two Aptitudes (0.5% x 2 = 1%) is effectively the same as S rank in one Apt, and D rank in three Apts (0.5% x 3 = 1.5%) surpasses it.

Optimally, demons used in the connector should have 3 different Aptitudes each, no duplicates, and each demon's Aptitude spread should be at least 50/50/10. In total, this would activate 6x C rank and 3x D rank stat boosts, summing to a 5.7% stat boost total. (6 x 0.7% + 0.5% x 3 = 5.7%).

  • If Aptitude-boosting passive skills are used, they should focus on giving 10 points in an area that would otherwise be 0, for D rank (0.5% stat boost).
  • Since the optimal spread sums to 110 points, but all demons' spreads sum to 120 points, there is some wiggle room. For instance: 60/50/10 and 50/50/20 are both optimal.
  • Ideally, the demons should also have relatively-high starting stats to make infusion cheaper.
