Anti-damage reduction (ADR), also known as reverse damage reduction (RDR) (no official name), refers to effects that apply a negative amount of damage reduction, causing the affected demon to take more damage. This is not the same as normal damage boosts.

Mechanics

Anti-damage reduction is applied at the end of the damage formula, where it is additive to normal damage reduction. For more details, see Damage Formula.

  • Due to this, anti-damage reduction can directly counteract normal damage reduction.
    • For example: if an enemy has a passive that grants -80% Elec damage taken, and your party has Botis.jpg Botis (applies +40% damage taken), then that partially cancels the enemy's passive (-80 + 40). This results in a total of -40% damage taken instead.
  • Normal damage boosts (such as Elec Amp) cannot counteract damage reduction in any way.

Due to how the math works out, anti-damage reduction will result in higher damage output than an equivalent % of normal damage boosters.

  • For example: Suppose Elohim.jpg Elohim is in a party with Mithras.jpg Mithras. The 40% anti-damage reduction from Mithras's Covenant Bless results in more damage output than Elohim equipping 40% worth of damage boosts (such as Fire Amp (25%) + Fire Boost (15%)).

Skills that apply anti-damage reduction are usually phrased as affecting the damage the enemy takes/receives, rather than the amount of damage your party deals. For effects that increase the damage your party deals, see damage boost.
