Once you find an image that works, save it, to have one that worked at least once, so you may not have to do the trial all over again next time. If it's hard to make the decoder identify a saved image, search for a replacement, with a different lighting, colour, hue, background and so on, because some images work better than others. |

Some demons, like {{DemonIcon|Shiva|size=32px}} or {{DemonIcon|Sandalphon|size=32px}}, may appear too big on the screen, with their head beyond the upper edge, and ask you to touch something near that zone. You can easily overcome this issue by slightly tilting the device towards you, so that the camera points slightly higher without the demon following its movement. |
− | *Because a session is made of two talks, the demon may request two offerings. When you are low on the specific offerings for a demon, if the first talk is a gift request, restart the game, otherwise, you will lose the item if the second talk also turns out to be a gift request and you intended to restart the session. | + | * When choosing where to spawn a demon, it's best to place them as far away as possible, on a flat surface at floor-level - a good example would be on the ground in a hallway. This way, if they ask you to touch them, you can easily access the needed spot without too much trouble. Don't be afraid to back up if you need to. |
− | *When a demon requests you to take a '''photograph''' of it, a camera button will appear. Take the picture to get a positive reaction from the demon. You are given the option to save the picture on your device, but the reaction won't differ if you decide not to. | +

*If you have a Twitter account, before saving the picture, '''share''' it using the "Tweet" button: this will grant you a random offering as reward, not necessarily related to the kind of demon being photographed. Be careful when taking pictures for sharing, because the real camera on your phone will be active during the whole conversation, so you may end up sharing more than you intended! | *If you have a Twitter account, before saving the picture, '''share''' it using the "Tweet" button: this will grant you a random offering as reward, not necessarily related to the kind of demon being photographed. − | *Some demons are '''rejected by Twitter''', like the Angel (apparently, Twitter itself has a device for checking the pictures being posted and it considers some, say, unappropriated), so better go with non-controversial demons before talking to the others, to have a better chance of posting the limit of daily tweets. If short on non-controversial demons, you can restart the game to reset the talk session with the current demon to have another chance of being asked to photograph it (the daily post's limit will not reset and the gifts are kept, only the conversation is restarted) | + | * Some demons are '''rejected by Twitter''', like the {{DemonIcon|Angel|size=32px}} (apparently, Twitter itself has a device for checking the pictures being posted and it considers some, say, unappropriated), so better go with non-controversial demons before talking to the others, to have a better chance of posting the limit of daily tweets. + | * Using AR Demon Scanner isn't something that I recommend for a long term investment as 365 days will net you 1,825,000 '''MAG''', but this is rather low for something that must be done daily. (Note: It used to be 10 daily gems but was changed as of 2/20/2020.)
+ | * The one-time rewards such MAG/Macca/Superior Summon Files may be worth the effort, though. Completing these should be the long term goal.

+ | ** "Collect X types of Rank 1-5 decoders" missions reward Macca.

+ | ** "Collect X types of offerings" missions reward Superior Summon Files
+ | ** "Post a photo to Twitter" missions reward Gems
+ | ** Most of the other missions just give decoders or offerings.
+ | |||
+ | * Note that some of the "collect X amount of Y" missions are not actually completable. Once you've collected everything, you should have:

The demons may ask tricky questions during a conversation session. Below is a summary of some of the most common question subjects and their correct answers. Some are mostly used by specific demons, but any demon may, randomly, ask them. Most questions offer only two options for answer, but there are some three-option questions. Unlike talk in the main game, there is always one right answer for every question. While there are questions that may also appear in the main game, there are others that are similar, but with different options for answers. | The demons may ask tricky questions during a conversation session. Overview
The AR Demon Scanner is an optional thing that can be accessed from the title screen. There's another version in-game, but it gives no rewards and is only for taking fun pictures.
In AR Demon Scanner, you take pictures of certain things/animals/objects to summon demons to talk to them. Each session is made of two questions/requests. Having two good answers to the demon will grant a very successful rating, making one mistake will get a successful rating and making two mistakes will result in a failed session.
Scanning images
- It's much easier to look up images for these said things and point the mobile phone's camera to it on the screen than going after the real things, even if the object is before you, with a few exceptions, like the Eye decoder, which can find your eyes on your face.
- Some scanner decoders, like the Eye and the Horn, are very lenient, easily finding the eyes on a face or a horn on a goat, but others, like the Scale (it requires a specific type and possibly only white models) and the Scarf (it must be arranged in a specific configuration, forming a loop), are very picky, so it's better and easier just to look them up online on another device and display it in front of the camera.
- If the scanning fails, subtle changes, like rotating the phone to crook the scanned image (e.g., the Fork needs to be diagonally positioned on the screen), pointing the camera upper or lower to put the image off-centre (e.g., the Bed must be lower on screen, not in the middle), moving the camera back and forth to change the scanned size (e.g., the hand's Palm must fit all on the screen, but not made too small, allowing for a thumb to be cropped off) and changing the screen brightness may help.
- If the tentative image doesn't work at all, try another one, with a different background (some decoders prefer white, black or grey backgrounds, while others work with anything) or lighting (the Ball usually needs a shadow cast under it, to show it's spherical, not just a flat circle). Once you find an image that works, save it, to have one that worked at least once, so you may not have to do the trial all over again next time. If it's hard to make the decoder identify a saved image, search for a replacement, with a different lighting, colour, hue, background and so on, because some images work better than others.
- The decoder's icon is, usually, a hint of the image it's scanning for, but not always (e.g., the Ring works with plain rings, like the one depicted on its icon, but rings with a gem are identified much easier).
- Here is an album of sample images that might work for you: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dx2SMTLiberation/comments/amzln9/demon_scanner_guide/
- As of 2021, there's a limit of 100 decoders that may be kept at once. If that limit is exceeded, the game will force to choose some decoders to be deleted.
- On earlier versions of the game, one object would summon exactly the same demon every time. As of 2021, a demon may be summoned by different objects and a certain object may summon different demons.
Talk Sessions
- Every time a talk session doesn't go well or doesn't yield the results you wanted, restart the game app. It will ask if you want to continue the previous demon talk session, taking you back to the beginning of the conversation, with new random questions/requests.
- Demons may ask you to touch specific parts of their bodies (head/hair/crown, arms, hands, feet, belly, tail), which can be a problem with fast moving demons, like Raijuu, but the game allows retrying if missing the right spot. Some demons, like Shiva or Sandalphon, may appear too big on the screen, with their head beyond the upper edge, and ask you to touch something near that zone. You can easily overcome this issue by slightly tilting the device towards you, so that the camera points slightly higher without the demon following its movement.
- When choosing where to spawn a demon, it's best to place them as far away as possible, on a flat surface at floor-level - a good example would be on the ground in a hallway. This way, if they ask you to touch them, you can easily access the needed spot without too much trouble. Don't be afraid to back up if you need to.
Giving Offerings
- Demons may request an offering during conversation, as well as giving you as a gift after the conversation is over. Those items are only available and used on AR Summon, so, when a demon asks for it, just give it, if you have one. The offerings received after conversations are always related to the demon's likings.
- If you don't have the proper offering for a specific demon, don't try anything else (giving some other thing, not giving anything or trying to trick it), or the demon will get angry. Instead, shut down the game and reload, until the pesky demon stops asking for something you don't have (or don't want to give it).
- Because a session is made of two talks, the demon may request two offerings. When you are low on the specific offerings for a demon, if the first talk is a gift request, restart the game, otherwise, you will lose the item if the second talk also turns out to be a gift request and you intended to restart the session.
Taking Photos
- When a demon requests you to take a photograph of it, a camera button will appear. Take the picture to get a positive reaction from the demon. You are given the option to save the picture on your device, but the reaction won't differ if you decide not to.
- If you have a Twitter account, before saving the picture, share it using the "Tweet" button: this will grant you a random offering as reward, not necessarily related to the kind of demon being photographed. Be careful when taking pictures for sharing, because the real camera on your phone will be active during the whole conversation, so you may end up sharing more than you intended!
- The Tweeter sharing button doesn't disappear after tweeting, so the same photograph may be posted multiple times, granting all daily rewards at once. As of June/2021, rewards for tweeting photographs were limited to 3 per day, the others are posted, but grant no rewards.
- Some demons are rejected by Twitter, like the Angel (apparently, Twitter itself has a device for checking the pictures being posted and it considers some, say, unappropriated), so better go with non-controversial demons before talking to the others, to have a better chance of posting the limit of daily tweets. If short on non-controversial demons, you can restart the game to reset the talk session with the current demon to have another chance of being asked to photograph it (the daily post's limit will not reset and the gifts are kept, only the conversation is restarted).
EXP Gain
Completing a talk session will grant bond EXP for that demon.
- A successful session gives 3 EXP
- A very-successful session gives 6 EXP
- If an offering was given, each offering will add +3 to the session's base EXP
- Example 1: A very-successful session with 1 offering gives a total of 9 EXP
- Example 2: A very-successful session with 2 offerings gives a total of 12 EXP
Rewards
- Using AR Demon Scanner isn't something that I recommend for a long term investment as 365 days will net you 1,825,000 MAG, but this is rather low for something that must be done daily. (Note: It used to be 10 daily gems but was changed as of 2/20/2020.)
- The one-time rewards such MAG/Macca/Superior Summon Files may be worth the effort, though. Completing these should be the long term goal.
- The daily mission to use 1 decoder rewards 5,000 MAG.
- "Collect X types of Rank 1-5 decoders" missions reward Macca.
- "Collect X types of Rank 6-10 decoders" missions reward MAG.
- "Collect X types of offerings" missions reward Superior Summon Files
- "Post a photo to Twitter" missions reward Gems
- Most of the other missions just give decoders or offerings.
- Note that some of the "collect X amount of Y" missions are not actually completable. Once you've collected everything, you should have:
- 6 types of Rank 1 decoders
- 6 types of Rank 2 decoders
- 4 types of Rank 3 decoders
- 5 types of Rank 4 decoders
- 4 types of Rank 5 decoders
- 4 types of Rank 6 decoders
- 4 types of Rank 7 decoders
- 1 type of Rank 8 decoder
- 2 types of Rank 9 decoders
- 1 type of Rank 10 decoder
- lv10 scanner
- 37 demons
- 14 types of offering
Frequently Asked Questions
The demons may ask tricky questions during a conversation session. Below is a summary of some of the most common question subjects and their correct answers.
