Official Profile
A Japanese Shinto-Buddhist syncretism and guardian deity of Gion Shoja. He is also called Muto Tenjin. In ancient China, he was said to be the son of Xi Wangmu and had a castle in northern Tenjiku with 80,000 subordinate deities. In Onmyodo, he is considered to be the god Tendo-Jin. Though many theories about his true identity exist, the Gion Gozu-Tennoh Goengi claims he is Yakushi Nyorai (Buddha) of the Pure Land. Many worship him to ward off pestilence.
