Official Profile

A representative member of the Kunitsukami in Japanese mythology, Okuninushi presides over agriculture and medicine. After overcoming difficult trials given to him by Susano-o, he founded the nation of Izumo with Susano-o's daughter Suseri-hime, making Okuninushi an ancestor of Izumo Takeru. The Kojiki records him as fathering Take-Minakata and a total of 181 divine children with various goddesses.
