A god of thunder from Indian mythology, who is known as Taishakuten in Buddism. In the oldest Indian holy scripture, the Rig Veda, he is a Deva, and is said to have fought numerous enemies, including Vritra, Asura, and Rakshasa. He was adopted into Hinduism as a heroic god symbolizing thunder. After ceding his position as supreme god to Shiva and Vishnu, he become one of the Lokapala as the guardian of the East.
