Half-woman, half-snake creatures that appear in Greek mythology, and are said to reside in Libya. They are beautiful women from the waist up, and snake from the waist down. Lamia are said to like the blood of young men and children. In the original legend, Lamia was a beautiful Libyan queen who was loved by Zeus. Her children were killed by the goddess Hera, who had grown jealous of her. Driven to madness, she is said to have turned into a monster that attacked and devoured people.
