Official Profile
Also known as Raryou-oh, a general of the Northern Qi who wore a mask during battles to hide his beauty. During the 600's, he became famous for leading the battle against the neighboring Northern Zhou. It is even said that he led a battalion of 500 cavalrymen into battle while wearing an ugly mask because his face was too beautiful for the battlefield. His deeds later became the central subject of a Chinese opera that eventually made its way over to Japan and into the Japanese imperial court as a piece of Gagaku music of the Togaku form. In this adaptation, Lanling Wang dons a terrifying dragon mask.
