*AC: "Accuracy" stat of a character/demon, increases the chances of it landing a Physical attack on the targets and getting Critical hits. Doesn't affect Magical attacks.

Story
 +
<span style="color:#FF0000">Note: items in this section will probably have story spoilers!</span>
 +

 +
Season 1
 +

 +
*Acolyte: A member of the Acolytes faction, which seeks to use Vanitas to end the world, so they can then remake it from what remains. Many members aren't really interested in the "remake" part, just the "destroy" part. Led by Jabo Kakuryu and Joshua Hawk.
 +

 +
*Antikythera Mechanism: A device with gears that is said to be able to communicate with Vanitas. Closely guarded by the Acolytes.
 +

 +
*Dragon Stream: A flow of spiritual energy that essentially represents the health of the world. If it gets polluted by malice (which happens really often), it can cause demons to appear at random, or otherwise act more erratically.
 +

 +
*Dx2: Pronounced [dee two], 1. the game "Dx2 Shin Megami Tensei Liberation"; 2. Devil Downloader, the title for characters that can summon Demons using a special program; 3. Devil Download, an application installed on the characters' mobile devices that allow them to see, talk to, and summon digital Demons. Not everyone can become a Devil Downloader - a certain amount of aptitude is required to properly control the demons once they are summoned.
 +

 +
*Homunculus: An artificial human capable of summoning demons, developed by Acolyte scientists. Homunculi are mass-produced and generally considered disposable, so most of them lack a face and will disintegrate after engaging in combat.
 +

 +
*Liberator: A member of the Liberators faction, which opposes the Acolytes in their wicked plans. Led by Einherjar.
 +

 +
*Vanitas: A supernatural entity with the power to bring about calamity. It responds to large amounts of human malice, and is said to be capable of ending the world. The Acolytes are capable of communicating with it by using the Antikythera Mechanism.
 +

 +
Season 2
 +

 +
*Brotherhood of Harmony: A religion-like organization that seeks to stop the spread of malice through their dogma of "Unity" - censoring and controlling the thoughts of people to be unified, minimizing conflict. Effectively, safety at the cost of free will. Led by Amane Misaki and her enforcer, Lindsay Altskan.
 +

 +
*Elements (organization): An organization of anonymous hackers that seek to stop the spread of malice through their dogma of "Stand Alone" - taking down the internet and gatekeeping it with demons, to hinder human communication. Led by Period.
 +

 +
*Neo Liberators: An organization branched from the Liberators that seeks to stop the spread of malice through "Fellowship" - humanity working together to save itself. Led by Megakin.
 +

 +
*Smartgun: Rifles that can also summon demons. Developed by the Brotherhood of Harmony.
 +

 +
*Tupsimati: A demon-enhanced supercomputer under the control of Elements. At the cost of some of its users' life force, it can achieve incredible feats of hacking.

*Acolyte: a member of the Acolytes faction, which seeks to (spoiler alert!) make (you) the (have) world (been) a (warned) better (!) place... By d35tr0y!n9 !t 4nd 574r7!n9 0v3r 0r 50m37h!n9 1!k3 7h47.
+
Aura Gate

*Action Points: currency spent to move in the Aura Gates. See Duel Stamina, Stamina.
+
*Aura: A supernatural entity with the ability to make dreams into reality. The Aura Gates are its domain.

*Aether: item that is mostly harvested in the Strange Signal quests, coming in different types and qualities, used to "awaken" a Demon.
+
*Hollow: A human-like being, created from soul fragments in the Dragon Stream that dreamed of becoming human. However, the souls of Hollows are incomplete, lacking a heart. Hollows strive to become human, imitating humans' actions and emotions frequently. Each Hollow also has one human-like trait, such as a smile, self-preservation, or curiosity.

Items and Resources
*Ailment: states a demon may be inflicted with:
+
*Aether: item that is mostly harvested in the Strange Signal quests, coming in different types and qualities, used to Awaken a Demon.
**Bound: affected by Bind Skills, the Demon becomes unable to act, though its Passives will still work.

**Charmed: affected by Charm Skills, in its turn, the Demon will automatically attack its party members or heal the enemy.

**Cursed: affected by Curse Skills, the Demon will have healing penalties.

**Dead: affected by some Skills (e.g.. Sword of Actuation, Baptisma, Temptation and Dark Premonition) that, upon killing the Demon, prevents it from being resurrected afterwards, in the same fight (it may be revived after the battle, that is, the player doesn't permanently lose its Demon).

**Dying/Downed: when a Demon's HP gauge reaches zero and no Skills can keep it alive, it dies. Note that, although the dying Demon can be resurrected by Skills or items during the same fight, that won't reset first-killing-blow triggered Skills (e.g., Endure and Enduring Soul), thus, that kind of Skill won't protect the Demon if its gauge reaches zero again.

**Muted: affected by Mute Skills, the Demon is unable to use active Skills, though it can still do a common physical attack and its Passives still work.

**Poisoned: affected by Poison Skills, the Demon takes damage at the beginning of its turn.

**Weakened: affected by Weak Skills, the Demon becomes 100% susceptible to Ailment skills, except those it Nullifies (e.g., Null Poison, Null Charm, Null Bind, Null Mortal, Null Curse).

*Anti Pierce: a team consisting of either Alilat, Rama, Atavaka or Demiurge, and corresponding demons that utilize Repel Pierce, Drain Pierce, War Aid or False God & Supreme Creator, respectively. Used to counter Pierce from the enemy team.
+
*Armaments: Swords and Shields used by the player's main character in fights in the Alter-World areas.

*AoE: "Area of Effect," a Skill that does Damage to multiple (random) or all enemies.
+
*Black Market: a shop in the Hideout, which offers some rare items for Macca.

*Archetype: a Demon may be of five different Archetypes, Common (素体 [sotai], Clear/Grey), Aragami (荒神 [aragami], Red), Protector (加護 [kago], Yellow), Psychic (異能 [inou], Purple), and Elementalist (防魔 [bouma], Teal/Cyan), which defines which Skill will be unlocked when it is awakened.
+
* Brands: equipment worn by demons that enhance their Stats and may activate special effects, like auto-casting Barrier at the beginning of a Wave, regardless of the demon wearing it having that Skill. Brands can be collected in several places (mainly in the Brands of Sin areas), obtained as quest/mission rewards, or purchased in the Black Market. They appear in a wide variety of Set Types (e.g., Divine, Life, War), Rarity Grades (from 1★ till 6★), and Branding Position (where it can be worn by a Demon, e.g., Body, Head, Left Arm). See Brands for more details.

*Attack: Demons/characters deal damage through attacks, which can be Physical or Magical. Physical Attacks have a chance to miss, hit or yield a Critical Hit, depending on the attacker's Hit Rate and Accuracy Rate, the target's Evasion Rate and some Skills' effects. Magical Attacks always hit, unless deflected by a Skill or the target's affinity to the Element, and cannot "Crit." Physical Attacks are usually of the Phys Elemental, though there're rare Physical Attacks of other Elementals (e.g., Spin Dash, Sword of Actuation, Vengeful Frost Fist).
+
*Demonite: Stat-boosting equipment, functionally similar to Brands, that can be equipped by the player's main character in Alter-World.
 +

 +

 +

 +
*Mag: 1. Magnetite; 2. Magical Skill, effect or attack.
 +

 +
* Skill Genome: item used to transfer a Skill to a demon or upgrade it. See Skill Transfer.
 +
** Blank Genome: item used to extract a transfer Skill from a demon, without destroying that demon. The extracted skill is then turned into a Skill Genome.
 +

 +
* Yata Mirror: item that can be used in place of a Demon of the same Rarity to evolve another one. See Evolution.
 +

 +
*Stamina-likes: currencies that recover automatically over time.
 +

*Bait: Refers to time-limited gacha banners that are released a few weeks before a big event such as Dx2 collaborations, Anniversaries,  etc. to get players to waste their gems before the anticipated banner and require them to spend money on buying gems to not miss out on said banner. Also refers to banners that feature demons that are not viable in PvE and/or PvP.
+
*VishnA / Vishnew: .

*Battle: Dx2 fights, may be composed of one or more Waves of demons, usually up to three in PvE and one in PvP.

*Battle Speed: the sum of the Team's Demons' individual speeds (which are dependent on their Ag stats, Skills that improve their Battle Speed, like Speedster, and Brands' Speed bonuses), which is checked at the beginning of each Wave to determine which Team will have the first strike. In Aura Gate, when a Team is wiped and the second Team is called in for battle, Battle Speed is not checked, so it's a common strategy to start a battle with a "disposable Team" (fodder) to grant the secondary Team the first strike, although that will not trigger go-first Passives (e.g., Guardian of the East).
+
*Ygg: .

*BB: Barrier Break.
+
Skills
 +
* Anti-Pierce: Skills that prevent Repel and Drain resistances from being Pierced through.

*BF: Black Frost.
+
*AoE: "Area of Effect," a Skill that affects (multiple) random enemies (e.g.,Ice Breath), (multiple) random party members (e.g., Peach of Immortality), all enemies (e.g., Dragon Slayer) or all party members (e.g, Mediara).

*BoS: Brands of Sin, quest areas where Brands can be harvested, often also referred to as "BoS10" or "BoS11", indicating the level of the area.
+
*BB: Barrier Break. Removes s, which would normally prevent Ailments.

*BP: Base Power, a value presented on a Skill's description, indicating how powerful it is when dealing damage or healing. Base Power is multiplied by the relevant Demon's/character's/weapon's stats and modifiers (e.g., Brands' bonuses, Skill effects) to yield the actual power.

*Brand: equipment worn by demons that enhance their Stats and may activate special effects, like auto-casting Barrier at the beginning of a Wave, regardless of the demon wearing it having that Skill. See Brands.
+
*Chain Effect: effect triggered by specific events during a battle. Chain Reactions may be part of a skill or a demon's Panel.

*BS: see Battle Speed.
+
*Dark Zone: an Aura Gate square that blocks view of the maze and consumes more Action Points to move through. Its effects may be countered by the Skills Void Dark Zones and Trap Free. Cf. "Dmg Panel."

*BT: Battle Tower.
+
*DfM/D4M: Die for Me!, a Mortal (instant kill) skill. See .

*Buff: an increase of 20% to attack (ATK), defense (DEF) or evacuation/accuracy (EV/AC) stats caused by a Skill, which usually last for a few turns. To remove a buff, either an equivalent debuff or a buff breaker must be cast.
+
*Dmg Panel: Damage Panel, a special square in an Aura Gate that inflicts damage to all Demons in the party when they step on it (similar to poison zone of other Megami Tensei games, though Dmg Panel doesn't persistently keep Demons poisoned after they leave it, as the game uses different mechanics for Aura Gate crawling). Also, Dmg Panel only causes damage upon entering the square, not repeatedly while the Team is inside it (e.g., while turning around inside the same Dmg Panel or waiting for Action Points to replenish to move out). Some Passive Skills are able to reduce (e.g., Dmg Panel V I, Trap Free) or even nullify (e.g., Dmg Panel Immunity) damage taken from Dmg Panels, even if the Demon having it is dead or in a secondary party, so it's good to have at least one Demon with some kind of resistance to Dmg Panels or AoE healing. Cf. "Dark Zone."

*Chain Reaction: effect triggered by specific events during a battle. Chain Reactions may be part of a skill or a demon's Panel.
+
*Five Elements/ 5E: a Skill that adds Repel Almighty Magic Repel Magic, including Almighty, to all Party members, for one turn or until first hit, which breaks it. See .

*Charge: a state a Demon may enter by means of a Skill, which increases the next Phys attack damage by 125%. Entering a Charge state cancels a previous Concentrate state.
+
*Makarakarn: a Skill that adds (excluding Almighty) to all Party members, for one turn or until first hit, which breaks it.

*Concentrate: a state a Demon may enter by means of a Skill, which increases the next Magical attack damage by 125%. Entering a Concentrate state cancels a previous Charge state.
+
*Mortal: Instant Kill Skill, that is, kills a Demon regardless of its current HP or Skills that prevent death by zeroing HP (e.g., Endure), usually having some caveat attached to it, like Occult Flash (it's a Physical Skill, so it has a chance of missing), God's Bow (50% chance of Kill), Do Me A Favor/Be My Friend (only affects Cursed demons) and Yaxche (Chain Effect activated when the Demon with that Skill is killed). Can be countered by Null Mortal Skills (e.g., Null Mortal) or Panels (e.g., P2 of , P2 of , protects the whole Team, but only for the 1st turn). All bosses have Null Mortal (it's a game feature, they don't need a Skill or Panel or anything stating that, don't even try, you'll waste your time!), so they cannot be "insta killed," although their sidekicks usually can (unless, of course, they do have some Null Mortal perk).

*Crit: Critical Hit, a Physical Attack has a chance to hit or miss, and if it hits, it has a chance to yield a critical success, which not only does more damage to the target, but also spends half Press Turn.
+
* Passive: a Skill that doesn't require the Demon that has it to spend Mana and actively cast it for it to take effect. Its effects may be permanent (e.g., Null Charm) or triggered by specific events (e.g., Counter), may last for as long as de Demon having it is alive in the Team (e.g., Repel Pierce), or not even needing it to be alive or in the active Team (e.g., Trap Free), may work a certain number of times (e.g., Peach of Immortality) or have an instantaneous effect every time it's triggered (e.g., Preach).

*Dark Zone: an Aura Gate square that blocks view of the maze and consumes more Action Points to move through. Its effects may be countered by the Skills Void Dark Zones and Trap Free.
+
*Pierce: a skill/effect that ignores the demon's/character's resistance to the piercing element. Variant "Pierce [weak]" skills exist, which deal less damage (usually, a lot less) if the target has an NDR attribute for the element, but they're usually sought for the piercing effect itself, not the potential damage yielded, because hitting the target would still trigger powerful Chain Reactions (e.g., Die For Me! + Dark Pierce (weak)).

*Debuff: a decrease of 20% to attack (ATK), defense (DEF) or evacuation/accuracy (EV/AC) stats caused by a Skill, which usually last for a few turns. To remove a debuff, either an equivalent buff or a debuff breaker must be cast.
+
*Skill: the moves, attacks and abilities of a Demon. They may be active or "Passive".

*DfM/D4M: Die for Me!, an Instant Kill skill. See Alice.
+
*ST: Single Single Target, a Skill that does damage to a single enemy.

*Dmg Panel: Damage Panel, a special square in an Aura Gate that causes damage to all Demons in the party when they step on it. Some Passive Skills are able to reduce (e.g., Dmg Panel V I, Trap Free) or even nullify (e.g., Dmg Panel Immunity) damage taken from Damage Panels, even if the Demon having it is dead or in a secondary party.
+
*Tetrakarn: a Skill that adds (excluding Almighty) to all Party members, for one turn or until first hit, which breaks it.

*Duel Stamina: currency spent to play PvP battles. See Action Points, Stamina.
+
Stats
 +
*AC: "Accuracy" stat of a character/demon, increases the chances of it landing a Physical attack on the targets and getting Critical hits. Doesn't affect Magical attacks.

*Dx2: pronounced [dee two], 1. the game "Dx2 Shin Megami Tensei Liberation"; 2. Devil Downloader, one of the characters in the game that can summon Demons using a special program; 3. Devil Download, an application installed on the characters' mobile devices that allow them to see, talk and summon digital Demons.
+
*Ag / Agi: "Agility" stat of a character/demon, increases EV/AC and the Demon's Battle Speed, both inside the party, defining which Demons will attack first in the current turn, and outside, defining which Team will attack first at the beginning of a Wave/Battle, the player's or the enemy's.

*Element: refers to a demon's affinity to Physical (Phys), Fire, Ice, Electrical (Elec), Force, Light and Dark attacks, which can be neutral (-), Weak (Wk), Resistant (Rs), Nullifying (Nu), Repelling (Rp) or Draining (Dr).
+
*Archetype / Color: a Demon may be of five different Archetypes, Common (素体 [sotai], Clear/Grey), Aragami (荒神 [aragami], Red), Protector (加護 [kago], Yellow), Psychic (異能 [inou], Purple), and Elementalist (防魔 [bouma], Teal/Cyan), which defines which Skill will be unlocked when it is awakened.

*Enhancement: when a Demon/character participates in some missions, quests, or battles, it gains EXP. After reaching a certain amount of accumulated EXP, they level up, enhancing their stats. A Demon/character cannot be enhanced beyond its levelling cap. See Evolution, Limit Break.
+
*Battle Speed / BS: The average speed of the demons in a team, which is then used to determine which team will act first in battle. Each demon's speed depends on their Agility stat and effects that modify their speed, such as Speedster or speed bonuses from Brands stats.

*EV: "Evacuation" stat of a character/demon, increases the chances of it dodging a Physical attack. Doesn't help avoiding Magical attacks.
+
*Element: refers to a demon's affinity to Phys Physical (Phys), , , trical (Elec), , and attacks, which can be neutral (-), Weak (Wk), Resistant (Rs), Nullifying (Nu), Repelling (Rp) or Draining (Dr).

*Evolution: Demons can only be enhanced until reaching their Rarity cap, Lv. 25 for 1★ Demon, 30 for 2★, 35 for 3★, 40 for 4★, 45 for 5★, and 50 for 6★. For example, a 1★ Demon can accumulate EXP only enough until reaching Lv. 25, then it'll need to be evolved to 2★ Rarity to be able to enhance till Lv. 30 and so forth. Evolving a Demon requires the sacrifice of other Demons of the same Rarity as the one being evolved (one 1★ to evolve a 1★ Demon to 2★, two 2★ Demons to evolve a 2★ Demon to 3★ and so on, up to five 5★ Demons to evolve a 5★ Demon to 6★) or, instead, the use of 1-5★ Yata Mirrors. See Enhancement, Grade, Rarity, Yata Mirror.
+

Initial Rarity of Demons depend on their Grade, 1★ for those from Grade 1 till 19, 2★ from 20 till 39, 3★ from 40 till 59, 4★ from 60 till 79, and 5★ from 80 till 99. Grade is used in fusion calculations, but it is meaningless on non-fusible demons.

*Fodder: a Demon or even a whole Team chosen to be killed or even destroyed for a greater good, for example, to Evolve another Demon, to Enhance another Demon's Skills, to attract enemy fire (usually, a weaker Demon will be targetted by the game's AI more often) or to break the enemy's first strike advantage (mainly in some Aura Gates, which allow two Teams to dive in).
+
*HP: Health Points, stat indicating the vital energy of a character/demon.

*Fusion: merging (fusing) two or more demons to create a new one. It's one of the most iconic features of Megami Tensei. In Dx2, it becomes less important over time, as Gacha Demons have, usually, a lot more powerful Skills.
+
*Level / Lv: the enhancement rank of a Demon/character, capped by its Rarity (Demon) or Level Limit (character). Usable Demons are capped at Lv. 50, but enemy Demons in PvE may go as high as Lv. 99. See Enhancement, Evolution, Limit Break.

*Gacha: 1. summoned Demons (as opposed to fused Demons), usually of non-Common Archetypes, or Skill Genomes; 2. Demons/Skill Genomes which can only be obtained by summoning; 3. the act of summoning demons or Skill Genomes, trying to get that very needed, very desired one that will be the best for your almost perfect party, at least until SEGA/Atlus introduces another one that thoroughly nullifies it two weeks later... Gatcha!

+
*Ma / Mag: "Magic" stat of a character/demon, increases Magical attack and defense.

*Grade: Demons have Grades ranging from 1 to 99, depending exclusively on their species. Initial Rarity of Demons depend on their Grade, 1★ for those from Grade 1 till 19, 2★ from 20 till 39, 3★ from 40 till 59, 4★ from 60 till 79, and 5★ from 80 till 99. Higher Grade Demons usually have naturally better stats, but that depends on other factors, like the power of their natural Skills.
+
*MAtk: Magical Attack, appears in game as "Mag ATK," usually used to refer to Brand's bonuses to Magical damage caused by a Demon, either as a percentage bonus (MAtk%) or as absolute bonus (MAtk+).

*Hell Gongen: A team consisting of Hell Biker and Zaou-Gongen, used to ignore Phys NDR. Further Information: Hell Gongen.

*HL: Huang Long.
+
*PAtk: Physical Attack, appears in game as "Phys ATK," usually used to refer to Brand's bonuses to Physical damage caused by a Demon, either as a percentage bonus (PAtk%) or as absolute bonus (PAtk+).

 +

 +
*Vi / Vit: "Vitality" stat of a character/demon, increases HP and Physical and Magical defense.
 +

 +
Upgrades
 +
*Awaken: all Demons come with a locked Skill (depending on its species and Archetype), which is unlocked when they are "awakened," using items called Aethers.

*Level: the enhancement rank of a Demon/character, capped by its Rarity (Demon) or Level Limit (character). Usable Demons are capped at Lv. 50, but enemy Demons in PvE may go as high as Lv. 99. See Enhancement, Evolution, Limit Break.
+
*Enhancement: when a Demon/character participates in battle, it gains EXP. After reaching a certain amount of accumulated EXP, they level up, enhancing their stats. A Demon/character cannot be enhanced beyond its leveling cap. See Evolution, Limit Break.

*Liberator: a member of the Liberators faction, which opposes the Acolytes in their wicked plans.
+

*Limit Break: normally, Liberator characters may be enhanced until Lv. 30. The only way to go beyond that is by finishing a specific Limit Break quest for it, after which, it may go till Lv. 50. Not all characters may have a Limit Break quest available.

 +

 +
*Panel: most 4★ and 5★ Demons have extra features, similar to Passive Skills, accessible in its "Spirit" menu, which are activated (unlocked) when the corresponding Panels are completed. Most of those Demons have 3 Panels, though a few have 4 (e.g., ). PvE enemies usually don't have unlocked Panels. See Spirit Merge.

 +

 +
*Transcend: can grant Skill Switches, which allow demons to swap skills in or out, without needing to overwrite them or use Blank Genomes. Transcend can also grant a third slot for transferred skills.
 +

 +
*Xfr: "Transfer," as used, some times, in the Pandemonium, referring to Skill transferring to a Demon.

Status Effects
 +
See Skill Effects for a more-extensive list.

*Ma: "Magic" stat of a character/demon, increases Magical attack and defense.
+
*Ailments: states a demon may be inflicted with, usually by Skills, but also by Demon Panel Effects:
 +
**: affected by Bind (e.g., Mahashibaboo, 's P3), the Demon becomes unable to act, and certain Chain Effects are disabled. Some Passives will still work.
 +
**: affected by Charm (e.g., Marin Karin), in its turn, the Demon will automatically attack its party members or heal the enemy. Passive effects will still work against the enemy (e.g., Fire (Physical) Damage dealt by ' P1).
 +
**: affected by Curse (e.g., Go to Hell!), all healing the Demon receives will be reduced by 75%.
 +
**: affected by Mute (e.g., Dark Sword), the Demon is unable to use active Skills, though it can still do its Standard Attack, and its Passives still work.
 +
**: affected by Poison (e.g., Fog of Death), the Demon takes 5% of max HP as damage at the beginning of its turn.
 +
**: affected by Weak (e.g., Plague of Babylon), the Demon becomes 100% susceptible to Ailment skills, except those it Nullifies (e.g., Null Poison, Null Charm, Null Bind, Null Mortal, Null Curse).

*Macca: game's money, one of the main currencies, the others being Magnetite, Karma, Fame, Democalypse Coins, Gems, Spirits (including Universal Spirits), Spirit Shards (also, Universal Spirit Shards), Summoning Files, Tomes, Parchments, Hell Buns, Tamas, even-specific collectables... Aside from the Demons themselves, used for fusion, evolution, Skill levelling, spiritizing and whatnot... Are them enough?
+
*Attribute affinity down / Elemental resistance down: Decreases the elemental resistance of an affected demon, in the descending order of Null/Repel/Drain -> Resist -> Neutral -> Weak.

*Mag: 1. Magnetite; 2. Magical Skill, effect or attack.
+
*': Protects the affected demon from ailments for 3 turns.

*Makarakarn: a Skill that adds Repel Magic, excluding Almighty, to all Party members, for one turn or until first hit, which breaks it.
+
*Buff: an increase of 20% to attack (ATK), defense (DEF) or evasion/accuracy (EV/AC) stats caused by a Skill, which usually last for a few turns. To remove a buff, either an equivalent debuff or a buff breaker must be cast.

*Mama: Mother Harlot.
+
*Bulwark: A shield that acts as an extension of a demon's HP. Any damage taken will deduct from the Bulwark first, before touching the demon's real HP.

*Mana: the magical energy used by demons and characters to use a Skill. It's naturally limited to 10 MP, but may be increased by Skills or items.
+
*': If a demon has this effect, then their next successful Physical attack will have its damage increased by 125%. Entering a Charge state cancels a previous state.

*MAtk: Magical Attack, appears in game as "Mag ATK," usually used to refer to Brand's bonuses to Magical damage caused by a Demon, either as a percentage bonus (MAtk%) or as absolute bonus (MAtk+).
+
*': If a demon has this effect, then their next successful Magic attack will have its damage increased by 125%. Entering a Concentrate state cancels a previous state.
 +

 +
*Debuff: a decrease of 20% to attack (ATK), defense (DEF) or evasion/accuracy (EV/AC) stats caused by a Skill, which usually last for a few turns. To remove a debuff, either an equivalent buff or a debuff breaker must be cast.

*Megami Tensei: the short version of the original Japanese game's name, デジタル・デビル物語 女神転生 (DIGITAL DEVIL Monogatari Megami Tensei = Digital Devil Story Goddess Reincarnation), released in 1986/1987, also known as DDS or メガテン ("Megaten"). Later, it was followed by Shin-Megami Tensei (真・女神転生, True Goddess Reincarnation), a.k.a. Shin-DDS, of which Dx2 is a spin-off of.
+
*Dying/Downed: when a Demon's HP gauge reaches zero and no Skills can keep it alive, or it's hit by a Mortal Skill (e.g, Die For Me!), it dies. Note that, although the dying Demon can be resurrected by Skills or items during the same fight, that won't reset first-killing-blow triggered Skills (e.g., Endure, Enduring Soul), thus, that kind of Skills won't protect the Demon if its gauge reaches zero again.

*Meta: Metatron OR also used as a way to describe the common tactics used in PvP.
+
*': a negative status that decreases the affected demon's accuracy, evasion, critical rate, and chance to inflict ailments, while also increasing their chance to receive critical hits or ailments. This status can nullified by .

*Might: a state a demon may enter through some Skill (e.g., Rebellion, Red Zone), which will grant it a Critical Hit on its next Physical attack.
+
*Good Status Effect: A specific set of buffs that have bright blue icons. These can be removed by skills such as Silent Prayer.

*Miss: a Physical attack has a chance to miss the target(s), which not only fails to cause any damage to the missed target(s), but also wastes another Press Turn. Note that Physical Skills that directly aim multiple targets (e.g., Hassou Tobi) or hit the same target several times (e.g., Blade of the Absolute), even if they are not of Phys elemental (e.g., Spin Dash), will also waste an extra Press Turn if they miss any target/hit, it doesn't matter if all others where successful hits or even Crits, but Chain Effects with Phys damage won't trigger that penalty if they miss (e.g., Counter).
+
*': Grants 15% max HP regen to a demon every time their turn comes up, for 3 turns.

*Mortal: Instant Kill Skill, that is, kills a Demon regardless of its current HP or Skills that prevent death by zeroing HP (e.g., Endure), usually having some caveat attached to it, like Die for Me! (only works if the target is not immune to Dark damage), Occult Flash (it's a Physical Skill, so it has a chance of missing), God's Bow (50% chance of Kill), Do Me A Favor/Be My Friend (only affects Cursed demons) and Yaxche (Chain Effect activated when the Demon with that Skill is killed). Can be countered by Null Mortal Skills (e.g., Null Mortal) or Panels (e.g., P2 of Mot, P2 of Masakado A, protects the whole Team, but only for the 1st turn). All bosses have Null Mortal (it's a game feature, they don't need a Skill or Panel or anything stating that, don't even try, you'll waste your time!), so they cannot be "insta killed," although their sidekicks usually can (unless, of course, they do have some Null Mortal perk).
+
* / Critical: If a demon has this effect, then their next successful Physical attack is guaranteed to be a Critical Hit.

*MP: Mana Points, stat indicating the magical energy of a character/demon.
+
* / Revive Seal: If a demon is killed by a skill with this effect, then they cannot be revived for the remainder of that battle.

*NDR: refers to an attack of an Element that gets Nullified, Drained or Repelled, which not only causes no damage to the demon, but also costs an extra Press Turn to the attacker.
+
*': a positive status that increases the affected demon's accuracy, evasion, critical rate, and chance to inflict ailments, while also decreasing their chance to receive critical hits or ailments. This status can nullified by .

*Nuker: a demon that uses a (or multiple) ST Skill(s).
+
Battle
 +

*Nergbog: a team consisting of Nergal and Chernobog, used to chain Plague of Babylon and Fog of Death.
+
*Auto: Auto Battle Mode, Auto Demon Talk, Auto Quest, or Auto Dungeon Move, a feature in most Megaten games that enables the AI to select battle actions, Demon talk options, to engage in Quests, and dungeon-crawling movements, so the player is allowed to play without playing... Anyway, keep in mind that, usually, the AI doesn't make the best decisions, just good enough to unburden the player from some repetitive tasks.

*P1 / P2 / P3 / P4: a Demon's completed Panels 1, 2, 3 and 4, respectively.
+
*Battle: Dx2 fights, may be composed of one or more Waves of demons, usually up to three in PvE and one in PvP.

*Panel: most 4★ and 5★ Demons have extra features, similar to Passive Skills, accessible in its "Spirit" menu, which are activated (unlocked) when the corresponding Panels are completed. Most of those Demons have 3 Panels, though a few have 4 (e.g., Lucifer). PvE enemies usually don't have unlocked Panels. See Spirit Merge.
+
*Cleric: A demon that cleanses Ailments on their team. Ideally, clerics should be immune to ailments themselves, and act 1st in their party to ensure they can cleanse everyone.

*Passive: a Skill that doesn't require the Demon that has it to spend Mana and actively cast it for it to take effect.
+
*Crit: Critical Hit, a Physical Attack has a chance to hit or miss (Phys Hit Rate), and if it hits, it has a chance to yield a critical success (Critical Hit Rate), which not only does more damage to the target (+50%), but also spends half Press Turn. Note: Brands' Critical % Bonuses increase Critical Hit Rate, i.e., they increase the chances of landing a Critical Hit, but don't increase the Critical Hit Damage, i.e., they don't increase the amount of extra damage dealt when landing a Critical Hit.

*PAtk: Physical Attack, appears in game as "Phys ATK," usually used to refer to Brand's bonuses to Physical damage caused by a Demon, either as a percentage bonus (PAtk%) or as absolute bonus (PAtk+).
+
* Crit Pass: When an ally crits with their standard attack, effectively using only half of a press turn. This is functionally similar to pressing the Pass button (which spends a half press to skip the demon's turn), hence the name.

+

*PLv: Player Level, it's upgraded when the player accumulates enough EXP, what unlocks some game contents and areas or raises some limit caps (e.g., maximum number of simultaneous Friends).
+
*Nuker: a demon that uses a (or multiple) ST Skill(s).

*Press Turn: Dx2 fights are turn based, with the number of allowed actions per turn counted by the so-called Press Turns.

*Press Turn: Dx2 fights are turn based, with the number of allowed actions per turn counted by the so-called Press Turns.

*PvE: Player vs. Environment, that is, fight between the player and the game's AI.
+
*Sweeper: a demon that uses a (or multiple) AoE Skill(s), often with great damage to quickly kill the enemy team.
 +

 +
*Wave: each stage of a Battle. Some Skill effects may be triggered at the beginning or the end of a Wave, while others may only trigger once per Battle, usually right in the beginning of the first Wave.
 +

 +
*Weakness: an Element to which a demon is Weak against, not only does it receive more damage when hit by an attack of that type, but also grants the attacker a half Press Turn bonus.
 +

 +
Team Types
 +
*Archangels: A team consisting of several Herald or Divine demons, making use of skill effects that trigger when 3 such demons are in the party. , , and are the classic members and the team type's namesake, as they and are collectively known as the 4 Archangels.

*PvP: Player vs. Player fight.
+
*Anti Pierce: a team consisting of a demon with a Pierce Negation-effect skill, and allies that have Drain or Repel resistances. Used to counter Pierce from the enemy team, forcing them to lose turns, and improving your own team's survivability.

*Rarity: Demons, Skills, Brands and some items have a ranking, denoted by "stars," being 1★ of lesser and 6★ of greater rarity/quality.
+
* Elec Bros: A team consisting of , , and . Zeus reduces enemies' Elec affinity to Weak, Botis increases the Elec damage that enemies receive (which directly counteracts damage reduction), and Odin A is a strong Elec attacker. Other Elec attackers can take Odin A's spot, but this is the classic format.

*RNG: Random Number Generation, refers to some outcomes depending on luck, e.g., Skills that hit random enemies or hit random number of times, or the result of a gacha summoning, that is, the Skill/effect/action is not reliable or granted to succeed.
+
*Hell Gongen: A team consisting of and , used to ignore Phys NDR. Further Information: Hell Gongen.

+
*Nergbog: a team consisting of and , used to chain Plague of Babylon and Fog of Death.

*ST: Single Target, a Skill that does damage to a single enemy.
+
*T0: "Turn-0", referring to effects that occur in battle before any team can act. Turn 0 teams are built around stacking as many of these effects as possible, with the goal of wiping out the opposing team immediately, or at least seriously injuring them.

*St: 1. "Strength" stat of a character/demon, increases Physical attack and defense; 2. "Strong," as opposed to "Wk" (Weak), appears in the demon filter options.
+
*T1: "Turn-1", referring to teams that are speedy and built for offense, to sweep the enemy team and win on the very first turn (they are usually frail, sacrificing DEF and Luck for ATK and Battle Speed).

*Stamina: currency spent to play most quests and missions. See Duel Stamina, Action Points.
+
*T2: "Turn-2", referring to teams that are slow and built for defense, to survive the offense of Turn 1 teams and strike back on the second turn.

*Sweeper: a demon that uses a (or multiple) AoE Skill(s), often with great damage to quickly kill the enemy team.
+
*Xisters: refers to a team consisting of the Moirai Sisters (, & ) plus . At least 2 of the sisters + Xi Wangmu is needed to fulfil the "3 or more Femme/Lady Race" to activate the Sisters' passive skills.

*T1: "Turn-1", the 1st turn of a Wave, or a Battle, depending on context, usually used to refer to Teams that are built for speed and ATK power, to win the battle coming in first and sweeping the enemy team in the very first turn (they are usually frail, sacrificing DEF and Luck for ATK and Battle Speed).

*Tag Bros: (Also referred to as Jack Bros) Referring to the two demons that have the Tag Skill in the protector archetype, Jack Frost and Pyro Jack.
+
*Black Pot: When redeeming a demon with tomes, a "black pot" is when there are multiple demons available to redeem, but no option to choose a specific one. The demon received will be a random one from the redemption pool.

Gatcha!

*Tetrakarn: a Skill that adds Repel Physical to all Party members, for one turn or until first hit, which breaks it.
+
*Tome / Spark: When summoning on certain banners, "tome" items will be granted for each pull. If enough tomes are collected, they can be redeemed for a guaranteed copy of the featured demon (if multiple demons are featured, sometimes the player can choose which one to receive, but not always). This can cost 200 or 300 tomes, with 300 usually being used for stronger demons or "black pot" summons.

*Ubeelze/Uber Beelzebub: refers to Beelzebub☆, to differentiate it from the lower Rarity Beelzebub. Also Uber as in super strong or overpowered.
+
Misc
 +
*Fodder: A Demon or even a whole Team chosen to be killed or even destroyed for a greater good, for example, to Evolve another Demon, to Enhance another Demon's Skills, to attract enemy fire (usually, a weaker Demon will be targeted by the game's AI more often) or to break the enemy's first strike advantage (mainly in some Aura Gates, which allow two Teams to dive in).

*Vi: "Vitality" stat of a character/demon, increases HP and Physical and Magical defense.
+
*Fusion: merging (fusing) two or more demons to create a new one. It's one of the most iconic features of Megami Tensei. In Dx2, it becomes less important over time, as Gacha Demons have, usually, a lot more powerful Skills.

*Wave: each stage of a Battle. Some Skill effects may be triggered at the beginning or the end of a Wave, while others may only trigger once per Battle, usually right in the beginning of the first Wave.
+
*Megami Tensei: the short version of the original Japanese game's name, デジタル・デビル物語 女神転生 (DIGITAL DEVIL Monogatari Megami Tensei = Digital Devil Story Goddess Reincarnation), released in 1986/1987, also known as DDS or メガテン ("Megaten"). Later, it was followed by Shin-Megami Tensei (真・女神転生, True Goddess Reincarnation), a.k.a. Shin-DDS, of which Dx2 is a spin-off of.

*Weakness: an Element to which a demon is Weak against, not only does it receive more damage when hit by an attack of that type, but also grants the attacker a half Press Turn bonus.

*XWM: Xi Wangmu.
+
* Talk: The most iconic feature of Megami Tensei, the possibility to have a conversation with a Demon, trying to convince it to join your party.

*Yata Mirror: item that can be used in place of a Demon of the same Rarity to evolve another one. See Evolution.
+
*Whale: A player who spends an extremely-high amount of money on the game, to gain strong units, gain high rankings, etc. Whales are most relevant in PvP, where they are some of the strongest opponents.
 +
**Dead Whale: A former whale that has stopped playing the game. Due to this, their PvP ranking sinks very low. However, their teams are still much stronger than is typical at low ranks, so they can be an obstacle for low-ranked active players that encounter them.

Overview

This is an alphabetical list of terms used in Dx2 or the community with a brief explanation.

Glossary

Story

Note: items in this section will probably have story spoilers!

Season 1

  • Acolyte: A member of the Acolytes faction, which seeks to use Vanitas to end the world, so they can then remake it from what remains. Many members aren't really interested in the "remake" part, just the "destroy" part. Led by Jabo Kakuryu and Joshua Hawk.
  • Antikythera Mechanism: A device with gears that is said to be able to communicate with Vanitas. Closely guarded by the Acolytes.
  • Dragon Stream: A flow of spiritual energy that essentially represents the health of the world. If it gets polluted by malice (which happens really often), it can cause demons to appear at random, or otherwise act more erratically.
  • Dx2: Pronounced [dee two], 1. the game "Dx2 Shin Megami Tensei Liberation"; 2.
  • Homunculus: An artificial human capable of summoning demons, developed by Acolyte scientists. Homunculi are mass-produced and generally considered disposable, so most of them lack a face and will disintegrate after engaging in combat.
  • Liberator: A member of the Liberators faction, which opposes the Acolytes in their wicked plans. Led by Einherjar.
  • Vanitas: A supernatural entity with the power to bring about calamity. It responds to large amounts of human malice, and is said to be capable of ending the world. The Acolytes are capable of communicating with it by using the Antikythera Mechanism.

Season 2

  • Brotherhood of Harmony: A religion-like organization that seeks to stop the spread of malice through their dogma of "Unity" - censoring and controlling the thoughts of people to be unified, minimizing conflict. Effectively, safety at the cost of free will. Led by Amane Misaki and her enforcer, Lindsay Altskan.
  • Elements (organization): An organization of anonymous hackers that seek to stop the spread of malice through their dogma of "Stand Alone" - taking down the internet and gatekeeping it with demons, to hinder human communication. Led by Period.
  • Neo Liberators: An organization branched from the Liberators that seeks to stop the spread of malice through "Fellowship" - humanity working together to save itself. Led by Megakin.
  • Smartgun: Rifles that can also summon demons. Developed by the Brotherhood of Harmony.
  • Tupsimati: A demon-enhanced supercomputer under the control of Elements. At the cost of some of its users' life force, it can achieve incredible feats of hacking.

Aura Gate

  • Aura: A supernatural entity with the ability to make dreams into reality. The Aura Gates are its domain.
  • Hollow: A human-like being, created from soul fragments in the Dragon Stream that dreamed of becoming human. However, the souls of Hollows are incomplete, lacking a heart. Hollows strive to become human, imitating humans' actions and emotions frequently. Each Hollow also has one human-like trait, such as a smile, self-preservation, or curiosity.

Quests

  • AG: Aura Gate, a dungeon-crawling style game inside Megaten Dx2.
    • AG1: Aura Gate 1, the first Aura Gate, unlocked as the player levels up and complete quests.
    • AG2: Aura Gate 2.0: Hollow World, another Aura Gate, with slightly different rules, unlocked after clearing the 30th floor of the original AG (it's not necessary to run the whole AG1 levels to start playing AG2).
    • AG SP: Aura Gate SP, an event exclusive Aura Gate, available for a limited time, completely independent of other AG and running different game rules and goals.
  • Alter-World: several different quest/mission areas, based on a split caused in the main storyline. Unlike the regular quests/missions, the player's character also participates in the Battles, using special Armaments.
  • BoS: Brands of Sin, quest areas where Brands can be harvested, often also referred to as "BoS10" or "BoS11", indicating the level of the area.
  • BT: Battle Tower, as the name implies, an area for PvP fighting. Unlike the Dx2 Duel area, in the BT, the player's character also participates in the fights, as it belongs to the Alter-World storyline.
  • PvE: Player vs. Environment, that is, fight between the player and the game's AI.
  • PvP: Player vs. Player fight. Note this is NOT in real-time, rather you are fighting a team made by another player.

Items and Resources

  • Aether: item that is mostly harvested in the Strange Signal quests, coming in different types and qualities, used to Awaken a Demon.
  • Black Market: a shop in the Hideout, which offers some rare items for Macca.
  • Icon Brand Head.png Brands: equipment worn by demons that enhance their Stats and may activate special effects, like auto-casting Barrier at the beginning of a Wave, regardless of the demon wearing it having that Skill.
  • Demonite: Stat-boosting equipment, functionally similar to Brands, that can be equipped by the player's main character in Alter-World.
  • Icon Macca.png Macca: the game's money, one of the main currencies. Primarily used for purchasing items in the Black Market, and upgrading Brands.
  • Mag: 1. Icon Mag.png Magnetite; 2. Magical Skill, effect or attack.
  • Icon Skill Genome.png Skill Genome: item used to transfer a Skill to a demon or upgrade it. See Skill Transfer.
    • Icon Blank Genome.png Blank Genome: item used to extract a transfer Skill from a demon, without destroying that demon. The extracted skill is then turned into a Skill Genome.
  • Icon Yata Mirror.png Yata Mirror: item that can be used in place of a Demon of the same Rarity to evolve another one. See Evolution.
  • Stamina-likes: currencies that recover automatically over time.
    • Icon Stamina.png Stamina: currency spent to play most quests and missions. 1 Stamina recovers every 3 minutes, up to the current Stamina cap. Stamina cap will increase as Player Level increases.
    • Duel Stamina: currency spent to play PvP battles. 1 Duel Stamina recovers every 30 minutes, up to 5 Duel Stamina.

    • BP: currency spent to fight bosses in Demon Alliance Invasion events. 1 BP recovers every 10 minutes, up to 10 BP.
    • Democalypse Tickets: currency spent to play Democalypse battles. When Democalypse Cull Phase is active, 2 Democalypse Tickets are granted each day. However, these tickets cannot be saved across multiple days.
    • Battle Tower Tickets: currency spent to fight battles in the Battle Tower. When a Battle Tower season is active, 7 Tickets are granted each day, up to 21 Tickets.
    • Demonite Finder: currency spent to fight battles in the Demonite Mine in Alter-World. 1 Finder is granted each day, up to 7 Finders.

Demon Names

  • Furykado / MasB / Masa B: Referring to Masakado B.jpg Masakado B or Fury Masakado.
  • Gen Masa: Referring to Masakado.jpg Masakado or General Masakado.
  • Herokado / MasA / Masa A: Referring to Masakado A.jpg Masakado A or Hero Masakado.
  • Meta: Metatron.jpg Metatron OR also used as a way to describe the common tactics used in PvP.
  • Pascal: Lost Name.jpg Lost Name. This demon is based on Pascal, the protagonist's dog in the original Shin Megami Tensei.
  • ShivA: Shiva A.jpg Shiva A. Note the capitzalized A.
  • Tag Bros: (Also referred to as Jack Bros) Referring to the two demons that have the Tag Skill in the Yellow protector archetype, Jack Frost.jpg Jack Frost and Pyro Jack.jpg Pyro Jack.
  • TiAmat: Tiamat A.jpg Tiamat A. Note the capitalized A.
  • Ubeelze / Uber Beelzebub / Uberfly: refers to Beelzebub☆.jpg Beelzebub☆, to differentiate it from the lower Rarity Beelzebub.jpg Beelzebub. Also Uber as in super strong or overpowered.
  • Ulice: Referring to Alice A.jpg Alice A or Undead Alice.

Skills

  • Anti-Pierce: Skills that prevent Repel and Drain resistances from being Pierced through.
  • BP: Base Power, a value presented on a Skill's description, indicating how powerful it is when dealing damage or healing. Base Power is multiplied by the relevant Demon's/character's/weapon's stats and modifiers (e.g., Brands' bonuses, Skill effects) to yield the actual power.
  • Chain Effect: effect triggered by specific events during a battle. Chain Reactions may be part of a skill or a demon's Panel.
  • Dark Zone: an Aura Gate square that blocks view of the maze and consumes more Action Points to move through. Its effects may be countered by the Skills Void Dark Zones and Trap Free. Cf. "Dmg Panel."
  • Dmg Panel: Damage Panel, a special square in an Aura Gate that inflicts damage to all Demons in the party when they step on it (similar to poison zone of other Megami Tensei games, though Dmg Panel doesn't persistently keep Demons poisoned after they leave it, as the game uses different mechanics for Aura Gate crawling).
  • Makarakarn: a Skill that adds Icon Repel Magic.png Repel Magic (excluding Almighty) to all Party members, for one turn or until first hit, which breaks it.
  • Mortal: Instant Kill Skill, that is, kills a Demon regardless of its current HP or Skills that prevent death by zeroing HP (e.g., Endure), usually having some caveat attached to it, like Occult Flash (it's a Physical Skill, so it has a chance of missing), God's Bow (50% chance of Kill), Do Me A Favor/Be My Friend (only affects Cursed demons) and Yaxche (Chain Effect activated when the Demon with that Skill is killed). Can be countered by Null Mortal Skills (e.g., Null Mortal) or Panels (e.g., P2 of Mot.jpg Mot, P2 of Masakado A.jpg Masakado A, protects the whole Team, but only for the 1st turn). All bosses have Null Mortal (it's a game feature, they don't need a Skill or Panel or anything stating that, don't even try, you'll waste your time!), so they cannot be "insta killed," although their sidekicks usually can (unless, of course, they do have some Null Mortal perk).
  • Passive.png Passive: a Skill that doesn't require the Demon that has it to spend Mana and actively cast it for it to take effect.
  • Pierce: a skill/effect that ignores the demon's/character's resistance to the piercing element.
  • Skill: the moves, attacks and abilities of a Demon. They may be active or "Passive".
  • ST: Single Target Single Target, a Skill that does damage to a single enemy.
  • Tetrakarn: a Skill that adds Icon Repel Physical.png Repel Physical (excluding Almighty) to all Party members, for one turn or until first hit, which breaks it.

Stats

  • AC: "Accuracy" stat of a character/demon, increases the chances of it landing a Physical attack on the targets and getting Critical hits. Doesn't affect Magical attacks.
  • Ag / Agi: "Agility" stat of a character/demon, increases EV/AC and the Demon's Battle Speed, both inside the party, defining which Demons will attack first in the current turn, and outside, defining which Team will attack first at the beginning of a Wave/Battle, the player's or the enemy's.
  • Archetype / Color: a Demon may be of five different Archetypes, Clear Common (素体 [sotai], Clear/Grey), Red Aragami (荒神 [aragami], Red), Yellow Protector (加護 [kago], Yellow), Purple Psychic (異能 [inou], Purple), and Teal Elementalist (防魔 [bouma], Teal/Cyan), which defines which Skill will be unlocked when it is awakened.
  • Battle Speed / BS: The average speed of the demons in a team, which is then used to determine which team will act first in battle. Each demon's speed depends on their Agility stat and effects that modify their speed, such as Speedster or speed bonuses from Brands stats.
  • Element: refers to a demon's affinity to Phys Physical (Phys), Fire Fire, Ice Ice, Elec Electrical (Elec), Force Force, Light Light and Dark Dark attacks, which can be neutral (-), Weak (Wk), Resistant (Rs), Nullifying (Nu), Repelling (Rp) or Draining (Dr).
  • EV: "Evasion" stat of a demon, increases the chances of it dodging a Physical attack. Doesn't help with avoiding Magical attacks.
  • EXP: Experience Points, gained by Demons and characters when winning some battles.
  • Grade: Demons have Grades ranging from 1 to 99, depending exclusively on their species.
  • HP: Health Points, stat indicating the vital energy of a character/demon.
  • Level / Lv: the enhancement rank of a Demon/character, capped by its Rarity (Demon) or Level Limit (character). Usable Demons are capped at Lv. 50, but enemy Demons in PvE may go as high as Lv. 99. See Enhancement, Evolution, Limit Break.
  • Lu / Luk: "Luck" stat of a character/demon, increases EV/AC and the chances of inflicting/resisting status ailments.
  • Ma / Mag: "Magic" stat of a character/demon, increases Magical attack and defense.
  • MAtk: Magical Attack, appears in game as "Mag ATK," usually used to refer to Brand's bonuses to Magical damage caused by a Demon, either as a percentage bonus (MAtk%) or as absolute bonus (MAtk+).
  • MP / Mana: the magical energy used by demons and characters to use a Skill. It's naturally limited to 10 MP, but may be increased by Skills or items.
  • NDR: refers to an attack of an Element that gets Nullified, Drained or Repelled, which not only causes no damage to the demon, but also costs an extra Press Turn to the attacker.
  • PAtk: Physical Attack, appears in game as "Phys ATK," usually used to refer to Brand's bonuses to Physical damage caused by a Demon, either as a percentage bonus (PAtk%) or as absolute bonus (PAtk+).
  • Rarity: Demons, Skills, Brands and some items have a ranking, denoted by "stars," being 1★ of lesser and 6★ of greater rarity/quality.
  • St / Str: 1. "Strength" stat of a character/demon, increases Physical attack and defense; 2. "Strong," as opposed to "Wk" (Weak), appears in the demon filter options.
  • Vi / Vit: "Vitality" stat of a character/demon, increases HP and Physical and Magical defense.

Upgrades

  • Awaken: all Demons come with a locked Skill (depending on its species and Archetype), which is unlocked when they are "awakened," using items called Aethers.
  • Enhancement: when a Demon/character participates in battle, it gains EXP. After reaching a certain amount of accumulated EXP, they level up, enhancing their stats. A Demon/character cannot be enhanced beyond its leveling cap. See Evolution, Limit Break.
  • Evolution: Demons can only be enhanced until reaching their Rarity cap, Lv.
  • Limit Break: normally, Liberator characters may be enhanced until Lv. 30. The only way to go beyond that is by finishing a specific Limit Break quest for it, after which, it may go till Lv. 50. Not all characters may have a Limit Break quest available.
  • P1 / P2 / P3 / P4: a Demon's completed Panels 1, 2, 3 and 4, respectively.
  • Panel: most 4★ and 5★ Demons have extra features, similar to Passive Skills, accessible in its "Spirit" menu, which are activated (unlocked) when the corresponding Panels are completed. Most of those Demons have 3 Panels, though a few have 4 (e.g., Lucifer.jpg Lucifer). PvE enemies usually don't have unlocked Panels. See Spirit Merge.
  • Transcend: can grant Skill Switches, which allow demons to swap skills in or out, without needing to overwrite them or use Icon Blank Genome.png Blank Genomes. Transcend can also grant a third slot for transferred skills.
  • Xfr: "Transfer," as used, some times, in the Pandemonium, referring to Skill transferring to a Demon.

Status Effects

See Skill Effects for a more-extensive list.

  • Ailments: states a demon may be inflicted with, usually by Skills, but also by Demon Panel Effects:
    • Icon Bind.png Bound: affected by Bind (e.g., Mahashibaboo, Chernobog.jpg Chernobog's P3), the Demon becomes unable to act, and certain Chain Effects are disabled. Some Passives will still work.
    • Icon Charm.png Charmed: affected by Charm (e.g., Marin Karin), in its turn, the Demon will automatically attack its party members or heal the enemy. Passive effects will still work against the enemy (e.g., Fire (Physical) Damage dealt by Guts.jpg Guts' P1).
    • Icon Curse.png Cursed: affected by Curse (e.g., Go to Hell!), all healing the Demon receives will be reduced by 75%.
    • Icon Mute.png Muted: affected by Mute (e.g., Dark Sword), the Demon is unable to use active Skills, though it can still do its Standard Attack, and its Passives still work.
    • Icon Poison.png Poisoned: affected by Poison (e.g., Fog of Death), the Demon takes 5% of max HP as damage at the beginning of its turn.
    • Icon Weak.png Weakened: affected by Weak (e.g., Plague of Babylon), the Demon becomes 100% susceptible to Ailment skills, except those it Nullifies (e.g., Null Poison, Null Charm, Null Bind, Null Mortal, Null Curse).
  • Attribute affinity down / Elemental resistance down: Decreases the elemental resistance of an affected demon, in the descending order of Null/Repel/Drain -> Resist -> Neutral -> Weak.
  • Icon Barrier.png Barrier: Protects the affected demon from ailments for 3 turns.
  • Buff: an increase of 20% to Icon ATK Buff.png attack (ATK), Icon DEF Buff.png defense (DEF) or Icon EVAC Buff.png evasion/accuracy (EV/AC) stats caused by a Skill, which usually last for a few turns. To remove a buff, either an equivalent debuff or a buff breaker must be cast.
  • Bulwark: A shield that acts as an extension of a demon's HP. Any damage taken will deduct from the Bulwark first, before touching the demon's real HP.
  • Icon Charge.png Charge: If a demon has this effect, then their next successful Physical attack will have its damage increased by 125%. Entering a Charge state cancels a previous Icon Concentrate.png Concentrate state.
  • Icon Concentrate.png Concentrate: If a demon has this effect, then their next successful Magic attack will have its damage increased by 125%. Entering a Concentrate state cancels a previous Icon Charge.png Charge state.
  • Debuff: a decrease of 20% to Icon ATK Debuff.png attack (ATK), Icon DEF Debuff.png defense (DEF) or Icon EVAC Debuff.png evasion/accuracy (EV/AC) stats caused by a Skill, which usually last for a few turns. To remove a debuff, either an equivalent buff or a debuff breaker must be cast.
  • Dying/Downed: when a Demon's HP gauge reaches zero and no Skills can keep it alive, or it's hit by a Mortal Skill (e.g, Die For Me!), it dies. Note that, although the dying Demon can be resurrected by Skills or items during the same fight, that won't reset first-killing-blow triggered Skills (e.g., Endure, Enduring Soul), thus, that kind of Skills won't protect the Demon if its gauge reaches zero again.
  • Icon Gloom.png Gloom: a negative status that decreases the affected demon's accuracy, evasion, critical rate, and chance to inflict ailments, while also increasing their chance to receive critical hits or ailments. This status can nullified by Icon Zenith.png Zenith.
  • Icon Lydia.png Lydia: Grants 15% max HP regen to a demon every time their turn comes up, for 3 turns.
  • Icon Critical.png Might / Critical: If a demon has this effect, then their next successful Physical attack is guaranteed to be a Critical Hit.
  • Icon Revive Ban.png Revive Ban / Revive Seal: If a demon is killed by a skill with this effect, then they cannot be revived for the remainder of that battle.
  • Icon Zenith.png Zenith: a positive status that increases the affected demon's accuracy, evasion, critical rate, and chance to inflict ailments, while also decreasing their chance to receive critical hits or ailments. This status can nullified by Icon Gloom.png Gloom.

Battle

  • Attack: Demons/characters deal damage through attacks, which can be Physical or Magical.
  • Auto: Auto Battle Mode, Auto Demon Talk, Auto Quest, or Auto Dungeon Move, a feature in most Megaten games that enables the AI to select battle actions, Demon talk options, to engage in Quests, and dungeon-crawling movements, so the player is allowed to play without playing... Anyway, keep in mind that, usually, the AI doesn't make the best decisions, just good enough to unburden the player from some repetitive tasks.
  • Battle: Dx2 fights, may be composed of one or more Waves of demons, usually up to three in PvE and one in PvP.
  • Cleric: A demon that cleanses Ailments on their team. Ideally, clerics should be immune to ailments themselves, and act 1st in their party to ensure they can cleanse everyone.
  • Crit: Critical Hit, a Physical Attack has a chance to hit or miss (Phys Hit Rate), and if it hits, it has a chance to yield a critical success (Critical Hit Rate), which not only does more damage to the target (+50%), but also spends half Press Turn. Note: Brands' Critical % Bonuses increase Critical Hit Rate, i.e., they increase the chances of landing a Critical Hit, but don't increase the Critical Hit Damage, i.e., they don't increase the amount of extra damage dealt when landing a Critical Hit.
  • Crit Pass: When an ally crits with their standard attack, effectively using only half of a press turn. This is functionally similar to pressing the Pass button (which spends a half press to skip the demon's turn), hence the name.
  • Miss: a Physical attack has a chance to miss the target(s), which not only fails to cause any damage to the missed target(s), but also wastes another Press Turn.
  • Nuker: a demon that uses a (or multiple) ST Skill(s).
  • Press Turn: Dx2 fights are turn based, with the number of allowed actions per turn counted by the so-called Press Turns.
  • Sweeper: a demon that uses a (or multiple) AoE Skill(s), often with great damage to quickly kill the enemy team.
  • Wave: each stage of a Battle. Some Skill effects may be triggered at the beginning or the end of a Wave, while others may only trigger once per Battle, usually right in the beginning of the first Wave.
  • Weakness: an Element to which a demon is Weak against, not only does it receive more damage when hit by an attack of that type, but also grants the attacker a half Press Turn bonus.

Team Types

  • Archangels: A team consisting of several Herald or Divine demons, making use of skill effects that trigger when 3 such demons are in the party. Gabriel.jpg Gabriel, Uriel.jpg Uriel, and Raphael.jpg Raphael are the classic members and the team type's namesake, as they and Michael.jpg Michael are collectively known as the 4 Archangels.
  • Anti Pierce: a team consisting of a demon with a Pierce Negation-effect skill, and allies that have Drain or Repel resistances. Used to counter Pierce from the enemy team, forcing them to lose turns, and improving your own team's survivability.
  • Elec Bros: A team consisting of Zeus.jpg Zeus, Botis.jpg Botis, and Odin A.jpg Odin A. Zeus reduces enemies' Elec affinity to Weak, Botis increases the Elec damage that enemies receive (which directly counteracts damage reduction), and Odin A is a strong Elec attacker. Other Elec attackers can take Odin A's spot, but this is the classic format.
  • Midrange: A team with medium speed that cannot outspeed fast teams, but does have enough bulk to survive them.
  • T0: "Turn-0", referring to effects that occur in battle before any team can act. Turn 0 teams are built around stacking as many of these effects as possible, with the goal of wiping out the opposing team immediately, or at least seriously injuring them.
  • T1: "Turn-1", referring to teams that are speedy and built for offense, to sweep the enemy team and win on the very first turn (they are usually frail, sacrificing DEF and Luck for ATK and Battle Speed).
  • T2: "Turn-2", referring to teams that are slow and built for defense, to survive the offense of Turn 1 teams and strike back on the second turn.
  • Xisters: refers to a team consisting of the Moirai Sisters (Clotho.jpg Clotho, Lachesis.jpg Lachesis & Atropos.jpg Atropos) plus Xi Wangmu.jpg Xi Wangmu. At least 2 of the sisters + Xi Wangmu is needed to fulfil the "3 or more Femme/Lady Race" to activate the Sisters' passive skills.

Summoning

  • Bait: Refers to time-limited gacha banners that are released a few weeks before a big event such as Dx2 collaborations, Anniversaries, etc. to get players to waste their gems before the anticipated banner and require them to spend money on buying gems to not miss out on said banner. Also refers to banners that feature demons that are not viable in PvE and/or PvP.
  • Black Pot: When redeeming a demon with tomes, a "black pot" is when there are multiple demons available to redeem, but no option to choose a specific one. The demon received will be a random one from the redemption pool.
  • Gacha: 1. summoned Demons (as opposed to fused Demons), usually of non-Common Archetypes, or Skill Genomes; 2. Gatcha!
  • Tome / Spark: When summoning on certain banners, "tome" items will be granted for each pull.

Misc

  • Fodder: A Demon or even a whole Team chosen to be killed or even destroyed for a greater good, for example, to Evolve another Demon, to Enhance another Demon's Skills, to attract enemy fire (usually, a weaker Demon will be targeted by the game's AI more often) or to break the enemy's first strike advantage (mainly in some Aura Gates, which allow two Teams to dive in).
  • Fusion: merging (fusing) two or more demons to create a new one. It's one of the most iconic features of Megami Tensei. In Dx2, it becomes less important over time, as Gacha Demons have, usually, a lot more powerful Skills.
  • Megami Tensei: the short version of the original Japanese game's name, デジタル・デビル物語 女神転生 (DIGITAL DEVIL Monogatari Megami Tensei = Digital Devil Story Goddess Reincarnation), released in 1986/1987, also known as DDS or メガテン ("Megaten"). Later, it was followed by Shin-Megami Tensei (真・女神転生, True Goddess Reincarnation), a.k.a. Shin-DDS, of which Dx2 is a spin-off of.
  • PLv: Player Level, it's upgraded when the player accumulates enough EXP, what unlocks some game contents and areas or raises some limit caps (e.g., maximum number of simultaneous Friends).
  • RNG: Random Number Generation, refers to some outcomes depending on luck, e.g., Skills that hit random enemies or hit random number of times, or the result of a gacha summoning, that is, the Skill/effect/action is not reliable or granted to succeed.
  • Icon Talk.png Talk: The most iconic feature of Megami Tensei, the possibility to have a conversation with a Demon, trying to convince it to join your party.
  • Whale: A player who spends an extremely-high amount of money on the game, to gain strong units, gain high rankings, etc. Whales are most relevant in PvP, where they are some of the strongest opponents.
    • Dead Whale: A former whale that has stopped playing the game. Due to this, their PvP ranking sinks very low. However, their teams are still much stronger than is typical at low ranks, so they can be an obstacle for low-ranked active players that encounter them.
